INQAAHE Biennial Conference April 14-17, 2003, Dublin Ireland

The following is the organised social programme for the conference.

Monday April 14
18.00
 Dublin Castle: Formal Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speech
20.00 Ministerial Reception in St. Patrick’s Hall, Dublin Castle

Tuesday April 15
09.30 Walking Tour of Dublin
Tour Cost €11.00 per person (Minimum number 15 persons)

Your tour guide will meet you in the courtyard of Dublin Castle from where the tour of this historic and vibrant city commences.  You will walk to St Stephens Green – passing through the Fusiliers Arch – Dublin’s ‘Arc de Triomphe’!  Your guide will tell you the history of this stunning hideaway in the heart of the city centre.

From here you will travel to The Georgian Quarter of Dublin city centre.  On the way you will pass The Irish Parliament Buildings known in Gaelic as ‘The Dail’.   Your guide will point out the houses of some of Irelands well known historical figures, including WB Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde.

You will get to enjoy another beautifully kept Dublin park on your way to the National Art Gallery for a guided visit of some of the greatest paintings in Irish history from the 18 century through to modern times.  Jack B Yeats – brother of the poet, and many of the major European schools are represented in the Gallery with Ruebens, Goya, and Rembrandt to mention but a few.

You will then visit Trinity College – an oasis in the middle of the busy city centre.  Here you will find some of the best examples of classical buildings in the city. You will also visit The Book of Kells, one of the oldest books in the world.  It dates back to the 9th Century and is a beautiful hand painted manuscript.  
Tour finishes at 13.00 hours.       

19.30 Dinner and Social Evening in The Old Jameson Distillery

Wednesday April 16
09.00 Wicklow Coach Tour

Tour Costs €36.00 per person (Minimum number 15 persons)
Tour guide and luxury coach will meet the group in the courtyard of Dublin Castle from where this panoramic tour begins.

Extensive tour of the magnificent countryside of Co. Wicklow, with its meandering lakes, wandering sheep, hills and wildlife. The group will enjoy a panoramic coach visit and will be able to stop en route to enjoy the surroundings.

With a  visit to Powerscourt House & Gardens, a magnificent manor dating from the 18th century, Palladian style. The manor looks out on to some of the worlds most magnificent gardens. These include, Japanese gardens, Italian gardens, magnificent Irish road gardens. The group will enjoy a visit to the manor, followed by a visit to the gardens.
Tour finishes at 13.00 hours


20.00 Conference Dinner in Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

As well as the organised programme, other worthwhile events will be taking place in Dublin during that week e.g. lunchtime and early evening musical and choral performances, concerts and recitals. Information on these events will be promulgated on this site closer to the date of the conference.
